Location

Matala is a coastal village on the southern coast of Crete, considered very charming. The village of Matala is located near Phaistos, one of the most important palaces in Crete. Matala became known, especially in the 60s and 70s, through the hippie movement with the famous caves on the island. The Zafiria Hotel is located only approx. 50 m from the famous Matala beach. The nearest airport is Heraklion (HER), which can be reached after approx. 70 km.

The hotel was completely renovated in 2022 and has a total of 59 rooms spread over three floors. The hotel lobby with the reception is located on the ground floor. The reception is open 24 hours and offers free internet access during opening hours. Hotel guests can enjoy refreshing drinks at the hotel bar.

Note on climate resilience contribution

For stays from 01.01.2018 onwards, the Greek government charges a climate resilience contribution, which is to be paid by the guest locally, similar to a tourist tax. The amount depends on the type/category of accommodation and, from 01.01.2025, will be tiered from 0.50 Euros to 15 Euros per day and room.
