CUMBRE VIEJA – TO TAJOGAITE VOLCANO (Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday)
Note: Half-day tour
The hike to the Tajogaite volcano on La Palma offers a rare opportunity to experience the Canary Islands' youngest volcano up close. The Cumbre Vieja eruption in 2021 profoundly changed the island and created a new landscape that is now safely accessible with specially trained guides.
The newly constructed path leads to the crater and continues to Las Manchas. Along the way, you'll have an impressive view of the vast lava flows that once shaped the Aridane Valley and buried more than 1,600 buildings.
The hike provides not only intense nature experiences but also the history of La Palma's volcanoes. Besides Tajogaite, the San Juan in 1949 and the Teneguía in 1971 also shaped the face of Cumbre Vieja. Gazing into the crater and encountering this young, still-smoking landscape make the tour an impressive testament to nature's power and an unforgettable experience.
