The Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya hotel is located directly on the beautiful white sandy beach of the Riviera Maya, surrounded by tropical vegetation. Playa del Carmen is about a 20-minute drive away, and Cancun International Airport is about a 1-hour drive from the hotel.

The modern, adults-only resort with 434 elegant suites features a lobby with a reception, a small shopping arcade, and an open-air theater. In the large, well-maintained outdoor area, there are 3 swimming pools (one of them an infinity pool with breathtaking sea views) with a sun terrace and a swim-up bar. For culinary delights, there is the international buffet restaurant, 6 à la carte restaurants (Mexican, Asian, Grill, Seafood, Italian, French, rotating opening hours), 7 bars, and the Coco Café.

The spacious suites feature a bathroom with a shower and whirlpool tub, hairdryer, ironing board/iron, safe, flat-screen cable TV, iPod docking station, telephone, alarm clock, minibar (daily refill with soft drinks, water, beer), Wi-Fi (free of charge), sofa, and a furnished balcony or terrace with garden view (JST/JT1). This means that every user of a hotel room in Mexico is obliged to pay a fee to the state locally at the hotel in cash, similar to a tourist tax.

A tourism tax came into effect on April 1, 2021, and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 224 Mexican Pesos, or approximately 11 US Dollars per person, regardless of the planned duration of stay in the country.

No Smoking Policy

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal Information

During stays between April and December, increased seaweed and algae may occur due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, brown algae are often found in the Caribbean during this period. This affects the beach and the sea. The hotel management and local authorities are naturally endeavoring to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with the municipal administrations. However, this requires the use of appropriate equipment, which may cause some noise.
