From now on, hotels in Mexico will introduce an "Eco-Tax". This obliges every user of a hotel room in Mexico to pay a fee to the state locally at the hotel in cash, equivalent to a tourist tax.

As of April 1, 2021, a tourism tax came into force and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 72.63 Mexican Pesos or approx. 3.72 US Dollars per room/per night.

Alternatively, the tax can also be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is advisable to carry the exact amount in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars. In Mexico, sinks or bathtubs/whirlpools may be open and integrated into the general living area of the hotel room without spatial separation.

Destination information

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations can be punished with fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal information

During stays between April and December, an increased occurrence of seaweed and algae may occur due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, there is often an increased presence of brown algae in the Caribbean. This affects the beach and the sea. The hotel management and local authorities are, of course, endeavoring to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with the municipal administrations. However, this requires the use of appropriate equipment, which generates some noise.
