A tourism tax came into effect on April 1, 2021, and currently amounts to a one-time payment of 224 Mexican Pesos, or approximately 11 US dollars per person, regardless of the duration of stay in the country.
The tax can be paid electronically before departure via the following link: http://www.visitax.gob.mx/sitio/
Alternatively, the tax can be paid in cash upon arrival at the airport. It is advisable to carry the exact amount in Mexican Pesos or US Dollars.

No smoking policy

Smoking is prohibited in all public places in Mexico. This also applies to public transport, beaches, parks, hotels, and restaurants. Violations may result in fines or imprisonment.

Seasonal information

For stays between April and December, increased occurrences of seaweed and algae may occur due to wind, temperature, and currents. In particular, an increased presence of brown algae is often observed in the Caribbean during this period, affecting the beach and sea. Hotel management and local authorities are making efforts to clean affected beach sections in cooperation with municipal administrations. This requires the use of appropriate equipment, which may generate some noise.
